Dr. Robert A. Bergamini is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology. Dr. Bergamini trained at St. Louis Children's Hospital from 1978 to 1985, when he joined St. John's Mercy Medical Center. In 1990 Dr. Bergamini introduced the concept of a comprehensive pediatric outpatient cancer treatment center in the St. Louis area.

Dr. Rob Hanson is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/ oncology. He was affiliated with Washington University and St. Louis Children's Hospital from 1987 to 1998, during which time he completed pediatric and subspecialty training and invested several years of research in the area of childhood leukemia. Before joining Dr. Bergamini in practice, he also was an instructor in the Division of Hematology/ Oncology, Department of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine.

Drs. Bergamini and Hanson are assisted by Jill Turec, whose background in special education, and as an educational therapist, provides a vital link in caring for the emotional, psychological, educational and social needs of the patient, the parents and siblings. The treatment team also includes registered nurses specially trained in pediatric hematology/oncology.

The Pediatric Cancer Care Team at the David C. Pratt Cancer Center is made up of board-certified pediatricians and pediatric hematologists, as well as oncology nurses and educational therapists. This dedicated team of cancer specialists provide a vital link in caring for the physical, emotional, psychological, educational and social needs of the patient, the parents and siblings.

Our young patients are treated with the most current frontline therapies. As we are affiliated with St. John's Mercy Medical Center, we have referral relationships in place for those children with very specialized needs.

If your child requires hospitalization, he or she will be admitted to the Children's Hospital at St. John's Mercy. This 40-bed Pediatric Unit offers comprehensive care to children from birth to 18 years. It is staffed 24 hours a day with board-certified pediatricians. Physicians in more than 25 specialties and subspecialties including over 40 pediatric subspecialists are available to meet the needs of the infants and children who receive care at St. John's. The Pediatric Unit includes a six-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the only PICU in St. Louis County.
